HELLO BULLY VOLUNTEER CODE OF CONDUCT AND AGREEMENTS

VOLUNTEER CODE OF CONDUCT

As a volunteer for Hello Bully, you are the face of our organization and of the dogs for whom we advocate — please keep this in mind when you are representing our organization.

Hello Bully is able to do what we do because our core volunteers approach their volunteer responsibilities with professionalism and commitment. In short, we ask that our volunteers treat your work at Hello Bully as you would at your “day job.” Rescue is important work, and it needs to be done right, for the sake of the animals.

As a Hello Bully Volunteer, you agree to:

  • Give a minimum of 24 hours notice if you are going to be late or are unable to fulfill a scheduled volunteer shift.

  • Adhere to the Hello Bully Volunteer Agreements.

  • Do not share personal contact information of other Volunteers, Leadership, or Board of Directors.

  • Support the mission, goals, and efforts of Hello Bully with a positive, professional, and respectful attitude.

  • Abstain from the use of illegal drugs or excessive drinking when representing Hello Bully. At events where alcohol is served, you are not permitted to drink before or during a scheduled volunteer shift.

  • Handle contacts with staff, fellow volunteers, and supporters in a spirit of courtesy and cooperation.

  • Correct, when possible, misleading or inaccurate information or representations made by others concerning Pit Bulls and/or Hello Bully’s policies, practices, and procedures.

  • Abstain from using inflammatory comments or language when representing Hello Bully on social networks, blogs, or other public forums.

  • Abstain from using your Hello Bully Volunteer status to promote dogs from other organizations.

  • Follow Spokesdog and Alumni Guidelines.

Hello Bully Volunteers are to communicate with each other in positive and supportive ways. We do not tolerate
name-calling, shaming, humiliating, threatening, belittling, or patronizing behavior. Communication within our
organization is to be timely, direct, and authentic.

Hello Bully Leadership is furthermore responsible to cheerlead our teams, support leadership, and respect leadership and Board of Director’s confidentiality.

It is the responsibility of the Volunteer to address any issues with the appropriate person and/or bring it to the attention of their Team Lead/Manager/Director > Volunteer Coordinator > Board Member, in that order.

Hello Bully’s Board of Directors is responsible for informing volunteers of our policies and procedures and maintaining an open-door policy.

Contact us immediately if you feel discriminated against or harassed by someone in connection with your volunteering, or if there are any questions or concerns about policies, procedures, interpersonal communications, or volunteer responsibilities.

Volunteers are responsible for following the Code of Conduct, and honoring agreements. Failure to adhere to these will result in a warning. Further issue will result in dismissal. In cases where actions are egregious, Hello Bully reserves the right to dismiss volunteers at will.

ACTIVE VOLUNTEER REQUIREMENTS

To remain an active event volunteer, all volunteers must work two events as a volunteer per year. Senior Event Volunteers may be asked to work several events per year. If this volunteer commitment is not met, you will be removed from the active volunteer list. This helps us have a reasonable expectation of what we can staff when we have event opportunities.

To remain an active Behavior Team Volunteer, all volunteers are required to volunteer one Foster Support shift or attend two Behavior Team meetings or obedience class per year. This helps everyone involved stay up to date on our latest training methods and protocols.

HELLO BULLY SENIOR VOLUNTEERS AND TITLED VOLUNTEERS

As a volunteer-run organization, we depend on our volunteers to help with day-to-day operations. We also rely on our volunteers to help develop campaigns, promote our mission, and build capacity. As you grow with us, please let us know where you want to help! Senior Volunteers and Titled Volunteers are asked to make a commitment of six months or more, and to give notice if you must exit your role. This ensures that we are using our resources wisely.

HELLO BULLY JUNIOR VOLUNTEERS

While the minimum age to be an active Hello Bully volunteer is 18, we welcome younger individuals to be a part of our Junior Volunteer program. Junior volunteers must attend a volunteer orientation with a parent or guardian who is willing to attend events with them. They are expected to follow the same code of conduct as active volunteers and are prohibited from volunteering at events where alcohol will be served. Under parent or guardian and Behavior Team supervision, they are also permitted to work with Hello Bully Foster Dogs, in a limited capacity.

HELLO BULLY COMMUNICATION GUIDELINES

Please address your concern directly with the person responsible for that program. If you do not feel comfortable addressing your concern directly with that person, please contact your Volunteer Coordinator, and then the Board of Directors.

Please be patient. If it is an emergency, feel free to do anything in your power to make contact as soon as possible—email, Facebook messages, phone calls, and text messages are all acceptable.

Emergencies include:

  • A pressing medical concern with a dog in Hello Bully’s care

  • Senior or Event Volunteers unable to fulfill an event commitment because of something that has come up the night before or the day of the event

  •  Any incident or accident involving a Hello Bully Adoptable or SpokesDog

If it is not an emergency, please be patient and allow the volunteer you are contacting 72 hours to reply to your query. If they have not replied, feel free to politely email them again.

As a reminder, following the organizational chain is part of the Hello Bully Code of Conduct. The organizational chain is as follows: Team Lead/Manager/Director > Volunteer Coordinator > Board Member, in that order.
